Don’t blame the water. You’re tasting contaminants: chemicals and sediments that make the water seem foul. And given some of the stuff that’s in our water system, your instincts are good. Most people wouldn’t voluntarily drink, say, arsenic, for example.
If you live anywhere in our service area (Tucson, Vail, Sahurita, Green Valley or Oro Valley) then there’s a good chance you deal with hard water. There’s also a good chance your tap water doesn’t taste very good, because it’s full of chlorine, ammonia, sedimentation, pesticides, and trihalomethanes.
According to Business Insider, Americans spend $11.8 billion on bottled water every year. That’s about $100 per person per year. Those who think they hate water tend to spend as much on soda, tea, and beer.
What if we told you that we could deliver bottled-water quality water to your home via your tap by installing a reverse osmosis water filter, a system that, for a family of four, would pay for itself over time? What if we told you this system would allow clean, fresh water to flow from every tap in your home, reducing wear and tear on your plumbing system and reducing your plumbing bills over time?
How a Reverse Osmosis System Works
A series of filters cleans your water as it passes into the tap, removing contaminants. This starts with a pre-filter which removes sediment and chlorine, as well as other particulate matter. The filter then exerts pressure to force the water through a semi-permeable membrane which removes dissolved solids and other contaminants. These are rejected and flushed down the drain where they belong.
Finally, a block filter made of activated carbon finishes the process, removing any lingering odors or tastes. This happens immediately before the water hits your faucet. You’ll be amazed at how great tap water can taste!
A little backwash keeps the filter clean, giving you a steady source of “grey water” to use on your lawn and landscaping efforts. By keeping itself clean the system extends the lifespans of the filters, ensuring they only need to be changed every three to five years.
This process is the only effective way to deal with contaminants such as silica, sodium, and arsenic. If you’re serious about your health, you need a serious water filter!
These systems are tucked away beneath kitchen counters or in basements, remaining out of sight so they don’t bother you or your guests. However, if you ever sell your home be sure to show them to potential home buyers. They will be a selling point.
These systems are designed to conserve water thanks to an automatic shut-off control. When the tank is filled and when no water is being drawn the system starts pulling water from your city water service. This is called the “demand production” feature, and it eliminates the constant run of water to the drain. It also depressurizes the membrane when it’s not in service, reducing the amount of wear and tear on your filter.
A Whole House Filter Makes All the Difference
There are smaller, less intensive reverse osmosis water filters on the market. These tend to serve a single tap, typically your kitchen sink tap. That’s not bad for getting you water that tastes better, but it doesn’t reduce wear and tear on your system. It also means you continue to get all the contaminants in the water when you shower or brush your teeth. You’ll stay in contact with all that hard water that’s ruining your hair, for example.
By contrast, we’re installing whole house reverse osmosis filters, which means every bit of the water you interact with daily is as clean and clear as if it came from an untouched spring. You can even hook them up to your ice makers, which means your ice will taste just as great as your water does. A cheap, single tap system from your local big box store will never produce those kinds of results.
We’re talking about a major plumbing upgrade here; one you will never regret bringing into your home.
Best of all, whole home systems last a lifetime. If you maintenance them by replacing the filter every 3 to 5 years and by replacing the storage tank and faucets as needed, then you will never have to buy another system like it. It’s a one-time investment that’s going to make your home an incredibly comfortable and healthy place to live.
On The Way Plumbing Chooses a Better Filter
Of course, we are not the only plumbers in Tucson who install whole house reverse osmosis water filters. What are we doing that other plumbers are not doing?
First, we use a 5-stage system. Most plumbers are happy to install a 4-stage system, but we wanted to install the best systems on the market. As it happens, the price difference isn’t much higher, but the extra layer of filtration does make a huge difference in the quality of the water you receive.
If you’re going to pay for a water filter doesn’t it make sense to get the absolute best filter we can find?
Next, we’re not going to try to sell you the biggest water filter on the market. We’re going to install the system that’s sized correctly for your home. This will keep your water bills lower and make the system more efficient at cleaning itself.
Every reverse osmosis water system we install is meant to be incredibly trouble and maintenance free. We usually don’t have to come out to deal with breaks or repair issues. Most of the time, our customers simply call us out to perform routine maintenance on them. They’re incredibly well designed and very good at what they do.

“On The Way Plumbing has done several different jobs for me. My water heater broke down on a Sunday, Sergio from on the way plumbing came out and gave me a very competitive quote, I referenced it with my neighbor who had theirs replaced a while back. It was not only more affordable but came with a better warranty. I was most impressed with their cleanliness and good customer service. I will recommend them to my friends and family.”
“We used this plumber for our home inspection when purchasing our home. We also used the realtors recommended plumber. On The Way Plumbing services were much more thorough than the other plumbers inspection. Sergio took the time to explain everything and give us quotes for work that needed to be done. He responded quickly and efficiently to each question we had. Sergio was on time too!!!! We have never gotten that from other plumbers. We will definately use this plumber for all of our future plumbing needs.”
